Cat and Pig have fun decorating cakes, digital phone drawings, 10/10/19

Cat and Pig might use buttercream, fondant, meringue, or royal icing to decorate a cake. They draw with icing in a paper cone tube. They don’t know what kind of cake they are decorating. What kind of cake is this?

Cat and Pig like lobster and comic books, ‘touch’ phone drawings, 9/25/19

Cat and Pig find a lobster.
It has only six legs, but should have eight ‘walking’ legs plus the claws. Maybe it lost two legs in a fight.

Cat and Pig share comic books.

Barnyard farm animals - Children’s ’ drawing class, 9/17/19

We drew every animal we could think of. You may even find a girdog here, (combo giraffe dog). Chickens, roosters, ducks, pigs, goats, sheep, cows, horses, dogs, cats. Phew - lots to take care of. No geese at least.
Kids and adults drawing display from 9/17/19 class.

Cat and Pig with anisette, digital phone drawings, 7/2/19

Anisette from fennel root. Licorice flavor. Related to carrots and parsley. Now what is celeriac? And what is that other 'parsley' in Mexican dishes and others - cilantro?  I used to like these flavors but at some point early on it became the same kind of distaste for me as squeaky chalk is to one's ears.

Cedar waxwings with berries, drawings and exercises, adult art class, 6/17/19

The first exercise was to practice a row of the black mask, eye and beak facing to the right across the page. The next row was to face to the left across the page
And then we did a series of the mask, beak, dark feet, and tip of the tail as whole birds going across the page. That meant you had to keep them lined up in order to be a whole bird. That was the challenge of it.

We made a series of boxes creating neutralized complementary color mixes using crayons so we were getting somewhat grayed or neutralized colors. First one was orange and blue. Next was purple and yellow. And then red and green. Each box of crayons has several Hughes of each color. So every combination is going to be a little different than the others. Students were to also put a little patch at the top of their window of the two colors they had used and write the names down. There will be variations even just with which color is laid down first. The last rectangle was to be a gray crayon. I should've said to try a gray crayon and a black used softly. One student did try that.

On top of these neutralized color rectangles we drew the birds using just the dark parts as in our practices. But then we used one of the colors of that rectangle to color in background without actually outlining, and thereby bringing out the whole bird better.

Finally the students could draw their own versions of Cedar waxwings with berries as they wished.

Cat and Pig like best friends and upsey-daisy day. Digital drawing screencast

A round about way to show what goes on in doing a touch drawing in iMessage.
This screencast hopefully shows how to do it. It shows the steps I’m doing. I’m concentrating enough to keep things smooth that I did not do any narration. The video is silent. But it would have recorded my voice too had I made any noise!

Cat and Pig prepare walnuts, digital phone drawings, 5/17/19

Cat and Pig prepare walnuts, digital phone drawings, 5/17/19

What will Cat and Pig make with walnuts? Where did they get the walnuts?
What can they make with walnuts?
Baklava, walnut pie, bread with walnuts in it, Waldorf salad, walnut
cookies. What else  can they make? How do walnuts grow? Where do they grow walnuts?
Where do walnuts come from? Where did walnuts come from a long time
ago? How many kinds of walnuts are there?

Cat and Pig try chocolate truffles, digital phone drawings, 5/2/19

Cat and pig want to try some chocolate truffles. Pigs really like underground truffles. They seem to be the only critters that can find underground truffles. They are very rare, a kind of mushroom. I have always thought truffles were the chocolate kind made with hazelnut nougat. There are different kinds of chocolate truffles. I've made fake single truffles with just butter, cocoa powder, and sugar.

Here are some basic recipes they found:

Cat and Pig make oatmeal cookies. Digital phone drawing, 4/30/19, -CK

Oatmeal cookies, and raisins day

A 3 ingredient oatmeal cookie recipe of oats, bananas, raisins. I haven't tried their recipe, but if you like banana bread this could work for you.

https://www.nestandglow.com/healthy-recipes/3-ingredient-raisin-banana-oat-biscuits

This oatmeal cookie thing - I'm wondering if I can do a stovetop version using smashed or cooked cranberries instead of bananas!
Honey or sugar as sweetener and 'glue'.

Sugar needs to be liquified or it won't hold oats together

Several days later - one stovetop cookie! So far it is holding up. I don't dare lift it to see if it's burned. I think it's ok. Mixed the ingredients last night. They were to be for a muesli breakfast with yogurt, but that looked off. Shaped the mixture into a patty and cooked on parchment paper in dry cast iron fry pan on the stovetop. The doily is cut from the spot the cookie baked on. I tasted a wee nibble. Oh look, it's a heart!

Cat and Pig find Bats, Digital phone drawings, 4/17/19

Cat and Pig watch the bats come out. Digital phone drawings, 11/17/19, for National  Bat Appreciation Day.
Happy Batday to some.

Of course we may want some bat jokes to go with that. Hopefully they would not be too bat.

I love the little Maurice Sendak book, The Bat Poet. I''ll find out the author. Sendak illustrated.
