Patchwork squares drawings & colorings, and exercises, adult art class, 11/28/16

Exercises were to draw a series of graphs: 8 x 8, 6 x 6, 7 x 7, and 7 x 7. The 7 x 7 would give central axes. Color in one color designs for the 8 x 8 and the 6 x 6. Make two color designs in the 7 x 7's.

For the big designs:
Fold up a sheet of letter paper so that you make a square out of it. I assume you know how to do that? (Fold the short side onto the long side. That should give you two equal sides with some excess. Trim off the excess. You will be left with a square sheet of paper.) Fold the square into 16 squares. Color a one color design using the squares from your folding.

New sheet: Fold into seven equal panels that will be equal or less then the square you can get out of that sheet. Make seven panels the other way so that you will have a 7 squares x 7 squares square. We used a fan fold or an accordian fold in order to get our seven equal parts. It is not as precise as measuring but we were working on the fly.) Now you will have a square that has  two central axes. Color a design using two colors.

Turkeys student art display, kids & adults, children's drawing class, 11/22/16

We did the calligraphy flourish type of turkey drawings, and then the horn of plenty cornucopia. And, the magic trick of making a patch of carbon/transfer paper. In this case it was a big guessing game to find out how to make marks appear on the back of the paper. I need this trick every once in a while when I want to reverse an image and have no light box. That strip of heart, box, circle, heart, box is a result of the experiment.

Happy Thanksgiving!

A little turkey fun!

Those snacky-poo turkeys people make look like such fun, I had to try a mini one. A way to have turkey without eating turkey!

Thanksgiving turkeys whiteboard demo drawings, 11/21/16

Thanksgiving turkey drawings, student display, adult art class, 11/21/16

Riot of colors because they did not get to work from photos! We practiced calligraphy loops using crayons first. Then class followed along from my demo on the whiteboard. Time to color in the drawing! Who needs coloring pages. This is 'make your own' coloring pages. Next version class followed along with my stencil style drawing. They were to draw in yellow or orange. And then color it. Turkeys ran off the page. Just tape another paper on and keep drawing.

Woodland animals - mice, chipmunks, squirrels, foxes, raccoons, bears. Student drawings, kids' & adult art classes, 11/8 & 11/14, 2016

Kids' class, (of kids and adults) drew along with my demonstration, always eager to get to their coloring. You can see they have made sure to give them plenty of berry good food. The adult class we did four follow along exercises. A chipmunk as if it were made of rectangular sponges. A bear as if made of eggs, (yarn balls or pompoms next time), the fox and coon as my somewhat cartoon like interpretations. Final drawings used reference photos from my close encounters with squirrels and chipmunks.

Christmas sets offset printed cards, by Catinka Knoth, vintage! 1988.

What a clutter! Some toys, animals & angels made by me, and some that I've had for a long time. Our Mom gave me the Gundt Teddy - in my eyes it was not up to snuff with a Steiff animal. Then I felt sorry for it and so, had to do a pen and ink drawing with him and his little buddy the real Teddy, who used to be a lovely Cerulean blue. They then got turned into a Christmas design. The other Teddy, also a real Steiff I forgot about until now. These have all been stuffed into a box, besides being stuffed anyway, until I needed them today for this pic for Catinka's Christmas Shop. Notice his lovely sweater - handknit of fine cotton yarn. Our Mom made that. She loved to knit and sew miniatures but did so much knitting and sewing for regular/larger sized beings, that she did not get to do the tinies as much. These toys are only out today as props for the cards... for the big 'cover' pic one is supposed to have in an online shop. ....Maybe more about how the cards came to be later..

Deer drawings by students, from kids' art class and adults, 11/2/16 & 11/7/16 (phew, eve of Election Day).

We did follow-along drawings working from the art of Ken Hultgren, a long ago former Disney animator.

Adult class had some exercises to do first. They were to make 4 'windows/frames on their sheet. Box #1- draw 9 criss crossing straight lines border to border, like a plaid.
Box #2- draw 11 diagonal strait lines criss crossing.
Box #3- draw 7 arcs, border to border, criss crossing.
Box #4- draw 13 overlapping triangles. Don't count any extra triangles formed by overlap
Now color in a critter invention or finding in each box. Use a different dark color for each box.
