Cat & Pig get cabbage, digital phone drawings, 2/17/19.

National Cabbage Day! It is also National Random Acts of Kindness Day! 2/17/19. Cat & Pig have cabbage. What could they make?
Cole slaw? Sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage, cabbage rolls? Our aunt used to cure ailments with cabbage. She wrote a little book on cabbage as a healing plant. We will wait til St. Patrick's Day to stock up on cabbage.

Lots of recipe ideas here:

Valentine swan paper cuts cards, adult art class display, 2/12/19

Template drawing:
Swan valentine papercut template art
Swan papercut pattern for kissing swans Valentine card

F = the fold. I did not leave enough room to really show the frame here, but I like to cut it w a frame. We made our  papercuts from copy paper then tipped onto either card stock or copy paper folded in half, (just dab glue in the 4 corners instead of trying to glue it all down flat). We had colored the background as desired before mounting the papercuts. Depending on which card format you go with you adjust how wide to cut the swans. And, you can use these as templates to trace around and just draw on the card.

Cat & Pig on Make a Friend Day, digital phone drawings, 2/10/19

Hard to tell who the friend is - the drawing space is too small. I don't know. Maybe Bunny or Bear?

Cat & Pig's Umbrella Day, digital phone drawings, 2/10/19

Glad we won't need them here today! Sun will shine today, with cold temps and strong wind. The wind wailed yesterday - like ghosts crying. Very creepy. So glad the cat could hear me call and came in for the night. He'd stayed out the night before tho I'd called for him five times.

Tidbits about umbrellas etc here:

Cat & Pig have kites, digital phone drawings, 2/8/19

Somewhere they can fly kites on National Kite Flying Day. They are always fun to make. Here is a video on making a simple paper kite. It is a new structure to me!

Cat & Pig on National Fettuccine (Alfredo) Day! Digital phone drawings, 2/7/19

Cat & Pig on Nat'l Fettuccine Day!  Digital phone  drawings, 2/7/19, ❤️-CK maybe linguine instead?

It's actually National fettuccine 'Alfredo' day!
There's a recipe here. I think there's also a video. Their history of the dish  is completely different than the one on the calendar of national days site.
One  recipe I found used a jar of ready made sauce. That was not much of a real recipe. It did include extra stuff though.

Year of the Pig - Chinese New Year, student adult art display, 2/4/19.

We started right in on the project without exercises. We used references of New Year Pig images and art. Some of the references are papercuts and would have been cut using a craft knife. Scissors would not be able to cut such designs within the figure. So we drew our designs using black crayon over red colored pig figures. One reference creates a pig figure by incorporating the year numerals into the figure's structure.

Cat & Pig on Groundhog Day, digital phone drawings, 2/2/19

Nice video of a backyard family of woodchucks. Narrated by the owner of the yard. It explains some things about woodchucks. I never knew they were so cute.

Penguins and sports figures - adult art class, 1/28/19

We started with black and white abstraction practices. Cut a sheet of paper into quarters. Color one of these quarters black, (crayon). Cut out a variety of teardrop shapes from this black piece. Make an arrangement of the shapes on another piece. Copy that arrangement by coloring into imaginary outlines. Make another arrangement that could be a sports figure pictograph. Copy/draw it just as you did before. Make an arrangement that could be penguins. Draw that too. Final drawings - work on a full sheet and use reference photos of real penguins.

Someone asked about Boa Constrictors. They were interested in how to draw them. I have yet to try.

Boa Constrictors grow up to 13'. They squeeze their prey and swallow it whole - as big as a pig! Skin color depends on habitat. A variety of beautiful patterns mark their skin.
