August adult art programs 2015, with Catinka Knoth, at Rockland Library, 2015

Press Release:

Knoth Offers Free "Maine Lighthouses and Boats" Adult Art Workshop
Series in August  at Rockland Library, 2015

Rockland - Catinka Knoth will teach drawing  Midcoast Maine lighthouse
and boat scenes,  Most Mondays in August  at 11 am. in the Community Room,
Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.  Led by Knoth, participants make
their own lighthouse and boat drawings  using colored pencils and
crayons. Each week is a different scene:
8/03        Marshall Point Light
8/10        Rockland Breakwater
8/17        Sailboats by Rockland Breakwater
8/24        Lobsterboat heads home by Marshall Pt.
8/31        No class

Knoth offers the workshops  free of charge with materials supplied.
Friends of Rockland Library host the workshops, which are open to the public.
FMI Knoth at 596-0069 or Rockland Library at 594-0310.

Participants will learn in the first session how to make a drawing of
Marshall Point Light. Knoth will show how to depict  the white forms of
the  tower, the pylons, and the walkway, by making the "negative"
shapes of the deep blue sea that shows behind these objects.  The dark
turret and cap of the building appear with the use of minimal
strokes. Broad swaths of crayon marks and accent strokes  suggest
the rocky shoreline. The dark green of Hupper's Island in the
background provides further negative shapes to  define  the walkway.
This is a subject that needs no preliminary drawing. Knoth  has taught
students of all ages to do their own variations of this view.

Knoth paints watercolors of Maine and whimsical animal scenes, which
she offers as cards and prints. She teaches a free weekly children's
drawing class, sponsored by Wendy and Keith Wellin, also at Rockland Public
Library. For more information about Knoth's work visit

Poppies art lesson, adult class, 7/20/15

Poppies in adult art class, 7/20/15, my demos and student work. Warm up exercises: A) Create 'rectangles' of red spots by 1) rows 2) outline of spots and fill in 3) random spot pattern 4) random fill in from middle out B) draw an amorphous shape and fill in with red spots randomly. Spots may vary in size, but try for larger than you have probably been doing! Now, create the same working from inside out. Keep the shape/outline in your mind's eye. Work that imagination muscle! C) Color an area light green. Over this light green use a darker green or blue to create sinuous light green lines and 'S's.
Final drawing, (in crayon):
Draw a frame around your page. We then worked from one of my paintings as a reference. In a continuous line draw first the overall shape that the poppies make, then move on to capture the other areas or main shapes.
Lay down light green in all the green areas. Lay down a blue in the main blue areas. etc. Use darker greens or blues to develop poppy stems. Perfect chance to explore patterning and art nouveau.
Develop the poppies with reds and oranges and any further accents.

Student display after my demos.
We had a young visitor in class whose rainbow and heart drawing radiates through the rest of the work!

Fw: port clyde watercolors

Just dug up an old email of some Port Clyde series watercolor sets as notecards. No, this selection has not yet gotten onto my website. So, here is the original message, and at least they will be on one of my blogs! ... Perhaps easier to find than if buried in email archives.

Hi K!
Hope you can see these ok. I haven't done any doctoring. These are just
quick snapshots of the 'masters' I use for my color copying. They are
photos of color copies. (That's actually what I did for my website in
order to be able to get that many images up without having to scan.)
But I've done nothing to bring up the color. These are also in the
'small' size so that it won't take too long for me to upload. I hope
you can see enough from this.

Sorry for the delay - and thanks for the push. Now let's hope I'll get
this doctored and onto the website soon! At least I've got it to send
in email.
Regards,
Catinka
